Installation and Maintenance of Garden Fountains

An important facet to think about is the size of the outdoor wall fountain in respect to the space in which you are going to mount it. It is essential that the wall where you are going to place it is sturdy enough to support its load. Therefore for smaller areas or walls, a light feature is going to be more suitable. An electrical socket close to the fountain is required to power the fountain. There are many different models of fountains, each with their own set of simple, step-by-step instructions.

The typical outdoor wall fountain is available in an easy-to-use kit that comes with everything you need and more to properly install it.

The kit will contain a submersible pump, the hoses and basin (or reservoir). Depending on its size, the basin can typically be hidden quite easily amongst the plants. Other than the regular cleaning, little servicing is required once your outdoor wall fountain is fitted.

Replace and clean the water on a regular basis. Remember to get rid of debris like leaves, twigs or dirt as swiftly as possible. Safeguarding your outdoor wall fountain from the freezing winter temperatures is essential. Your pump may crack when subjected to freezing water during the winter, so it is best to bring it indoors to avoid any damage. All in all, an outdoor wall fountain can last for any number of years with proper maintenance and care.

What Are Fountains Created From?

While today’s garden fountains are made in a range of materials, the majority are crafted from metal. Metallic fountains, with their clean lines and sculptural accents, come in in a range of metals and can accommodate any style or budget. If you have a modern-day look and feel to your interior design, your yard and garden should reflect that same look.

Today, a lot of people favor copper for their sculptural garden fountains. Copper is common for both inside and outside use and is commonly found in tabletop and cascade fountains, among others. Copper is also versatile enough that you can pick a range of styles for your fountain, from contemporary to whimsical.

If you are drawn to more traditional -looking water fountains, brass is probably the best option for you. Brass fountains are frequently designed with unique artwork, so they are popular even if they are a bit conventional.

Arguably the most cutting-edge of all metals is stainless steel. Adding a modern-looking steel design will immediately add value to your garden and enhance the overall mood. Like all water fountains, you can get them in just about any size you prefer.

For people who want the appearance of a metal fountain but desire a lighter weight and more affordable option, fiberglass is the answer. Caring for a fiberglass water fountain is quite easy, another benefit that consumers like.

A Back Story of Fountains

During his reign (1397-1455) of the Roman Catholic Church, the intellectual Pope Nicholas V commissioned countless of translations of ancient Greek classics into Latin. He also undertook the beautification of the city to make it into the true capital of the Christian world. Starting in 1453, the ruined Aqua Vergine, an ancient Roman aqueduct which had brought clean drinking water into the city from many miles away, underwent repair at the behest of the Pope. Nicholas V also revived the Roman convention of installing lavish fountains, known as mostras, to mark the end point of the aqueduct. The Trevi Fountain now occupies the space formerly filled with a wall fountain crafted by Leon Battista Albert, an architect commissioned by him. The water which ultimately supplied the Trevi Fountain, as well as the acclaimed baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona, came from the rebuilt and altered aqueduct.
